Gather Workflow Information
You will be observing, recording, and summarizing the workflow as performed by each participant in the audit. The work product created in this step will be used for the analysis.
Time to Perform is TBD
+ Why
Preserving a copy of the actions taken makes life easier. You don’t have to hurriedly write down what you are watching while trying to keep up with what is happening and then worrying about if you missed something. You could ask the person to stop as you take notes, but then you lose the ability to generate a time associated with them performing the work. If you manage to keep up and have other team members helping with the audit, you are going to have to hope your notes or memory are good enough to cross compare with their hopefully just as good notes or memory.
A video lets you pause to take notes/create a summary and when it comes to comparing notes with team members, you can go to the tape for a no-hassle approach. Additionally, if a better best practice emerges from the audit you have the video to create documentation and/or act as the documentation.
Time to perform dependent on workflow and participant count - To determine time to perform use the equation: (Participants x Estimated Time to Complete Workflow)*2
